Do you have a favorite dog breed and what do you like about them?  In this informative article, I list and describe 15 popular dog breeds in the world.

The breed originated from Swiss Alps. It was bred for rescue operations. The giant dog is arguably one of the most intelligent dogs in the world. They are friendly but sometimes aggressive if provoked.

The Danes are usually harmless to toddlers. When standing on their rearward legs, Danes can be taller than a human.

Bull Terrier

They are generally affectionate. The Bull Terriers are quite small but muscular. Their drive to attack prey is on an imaginable level hence the Terriers should not be left alone with children.

They like playing around and are full of energy. However, if not trained the right way, the Siberian huskies can be stubborn and difficult to control.

The breed is from East Asia. In some parts of China, they are referred to as “Songshi Quan”, meaning a dog with a lion mane. They are always overprotective whenever they feel their owners are in danger.

Some people mistake them for German shepherds. Their intelligent nature makes them good for guarding. Their bite force is 195 PSI. The Malinois can get aggressive around children.

Some refer to them as kanda, gull terrier or gull dong. They are loyal and smart. If you want to own such a dog then you need to be a tough leader. If not trained, the Pakistani Bulldog can be dangerous.

The retrievers are a well-known breed in US. Apparently, they contribute a high number of biting incidents in the country too.

They are burly and big-boned. They are protective and always wary of strangers. They need adequate training and handling.

Doberman

Dobermans make good guard dogs due to their energetic and powerful nature. They are always loyal to their human owners. If provoked, Dobermans become irritable and aggressive.

The pit bulls are funny, intelligent, playful, and affectionate. They are also famous for causing injuries and sometimes fatalities in the US. If inadequately trained, pit bulls can be fatal to humans and possibly other animals.

Sometimes referred to as Caucasian ovcharka, kaukasische schaferhund or Caucasian sheepdog. They can weigh around 200 pounds. They were bred for guarding livestock from predators. Caucasian shepherds are considered confident and powerful.

Boxers are always happy and playful around children and their families. They also have a tendency of biting people and other animals if they feel insecure.

German shepherd

Arguably the most popular dog breed in the world. The GSD was the first breed to be used as a service dog. Both the law enforcement agencies and the military use them during security operations.

Rottweiler

They are muscular, some see them as Doberman cousins. Rottweilers were originally bred for hauling carts, guarding, and as draft dogs. The breed requires a lot of exercises and attention. Their bite force is 328 PSI.


The 15 dog breeds mentioned above have both advantages and disadvantages, it's up to you to figure out what best suits you. However, you must consider these factors: children, other animals, training, and time.
