Lionel Messi Joins Paris Saint-Germain
In the history of football, Messi's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain is the most talked-about transfer news; generating buzz from both traditional and social media platforms! This came in the wake of him leaving Barcelona in a demeaning way.
La Liga blocked Barcelona from resigning him, due to the salaries' cap. Messi went to an extent of agreeing to cut his salary by half just to make things work for the club.
Paris Saint-Germain is a good club with great ambitions and a future. Messi joining the likes of Mbappe and Neymar will increase the chances of the club winning its first-ever Champions League trophy.
What Messi said on Joining Paris Saint-Germain
"Everything that happened to me this last week has been very strange...but I feel happy about this new life. I am very happy."
"You all know how my exit was from Barca. It has been a very hard moment after so many years. But the moment I arrived here I felt very happy."
"My dream is to win the champions league again and I think Paris is the best place to do so."
"This team is ready. There are some new transfers, but Paris Saint-Germain has been close and is ready to win the champions league."
Messi's Paris Saint-Germain Contract Details
The contract will run for two years with an option to extend for a further one year. During this period, Messi will earn $41 million per year; inclusive of bonuses. At 34 years old, this is an amazing offer for him since it's difficult for a person of his age to pocket such amounts. Messi will not wear his usual number 10 Jersey, rather he will wear the number 30; a number that he started with at Barcelona.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi ( Paris Saint-Germain President) on Signing Messi
"I am delighted that Lionel Messi has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain and we are proud to welcome him to Paris, with his family.

For as long as I’ve been playing, #Messi has been redefining football. If it wasn’t for him, @LaLiga would be a very different place. I’d have a few more clean sheets for a start. He inspires everyone to raise their game. Here’s to his next dream. #NeverDreamAlone @budfootball pic.twitter.com/kipCoIFtFy

Not only is Al Khelaifi PSG president but he's chair of the European Club Association, UEFA executive committee member & beIN chief (one of UEFA's main TV rights holders) - with a main role in future of FFP
Lionel Messi is a football icon who deserves nothing but praise! How he left Barcelona was unpleasant, not a hero's goodbye! Him joining Paris Saint-Germain may be a downgrade but looking at the signings they have done this time around, he is definitely in a good place to win another Champions League trophy. Hope he will have the best two years of his footballing life in Paris.
